Two of Britain’s most elegant and stylish women, Kate Middleton and Amal Clooney, are using the power of fashion to help promote their charitable causes.

The people’s duchess

Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, embodies the charitable spirit, participating in numerous volunteer activities and diplomatic missions. And with a great fashion sense, she can use her style to make a good impression anywhere she visits.

The “Kate Middleton effect” is a phrase used in the media to describe the global fashion influence that the Duchess of Cambridge has, inspiring legions of consumers to follow her style choices. According to a public opinion poll in the United States, when Duchess Kate wears a dress or an accessory, it increases its desirability for 38% of shoppers. Kate’s designers of choice include Alexander McQueen, Jenny Packham and Catherine Walker and her favorite outfits are elegant evening gowns and coat dresses in pastel colors.

However, Duchess Kate can also be found shopping at Topshop or T.K.Maxx on Kensington High Street in London. Despite being busy with the tight schedule of the royal family, she takes good care of her three children while working with charities that support children, arts, sports and mental health. Her recent royal tour of Pakistan with Prince William was a success, demonstrating the global affection for the woman British fans have dubbed “The People’s Duchess.”

Fashionable human rights icon

As a leading human rights lawyer, Amal Clooney has brought global attention to a range of issues from media freedom to women’s rights. However, the Lebanese-British lawyer’s life and career took a Hollywood turn when she married actor George Clooney in 2014. And Amal Clooney has since used the power of fame and fashion to help spread her message and advance charitable causes.

As Clooney once put it, “A beautiful dress opens up a business opportunity,” and she has become a fashion icon for both her red carpet appearances and her own professional style. She rarely appears in a classic formal suit, but more often in an elegant button-down dress or a wraparound dress with delicate cuts, bringing modern features to the formal legal environment. Being close friends with a number of world-class designers, she has rare access to their latest creations and always brings a special charm to any outfit she wears in public appearances.

As a special guest at the royal wedding between Britain’s Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Amal wore a luxurious canary-yellow dress designed by Stella McCartney. Her relationship with the royal family also brought Clooney and her famous husband to Buckingham Palace to attend a party that honored activities of The Prince’s Trust, founded by Prince of Wales. In 2020, awards for disadvantaged young women who contribute significantly to the community will be presented by Amal Clooney, the Trust’s ambassador.

After fairytale weddings to a prince and Hollywood icon, both Clooney and Middleton have used their public platforms and striking fashion sense not just to look good but to do good for the less privileged.
