The journey to build trust

As the longest-standing airline in Vietnam, Vietnam Airlines has accumulated safety know-how over decades with teams of highly-qualified personnel and state-of-the-art infrastructure. These relentless efforts have allowed Vietnam Airlines to become the first Vietnamese airline to attain the IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) Certification – the IATA’s most comprehensive operational safety assessment program. Vietnam Airlines also received a perfect rating score of 7/7 stars for Aviation Safety from AirlineRatings, a reputable website specializing in assessing the safety level and service quality of global airlines.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Vietnam Airlines has been at the forefront in applying the highest safety and hygiene standards that meet the strict requirements of the WHO and IATA. As a result, Vietnam Airlines became the first Vietnamese airline to receive the highest 5-star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating by Skytrax. This recognition elevated our brand and helped build customers’ trust and confidence in flying with Vietnam Airlines.

Reaching new heights

Along with efforts to revive route networks and accelerate post-pandemic recovery, Vietnam Airlines has taken pioneering steps in planning and operating safe and effective flights. Since the end of 2021, Vietnam Airlines has been granted a Foreign Air Operator Certificate (FAOC) for flights to the United States, which has some of the strictest legal barriers in the world. FAOCs were also successfully renewed for other countries, including the UK, Spain, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, Myanmar, Korea, and Sri Lanka.

In addition, Vietnam Airlines is actively implementing digital transformation in safety measures through the integration and display of its 2017-2022 safety data dashboard on its safety culture (VHAT) website. Furthermore, it regularly reviews, updates, and performs assessments to ensure compliance with the highest global aviation safety standards. The airline also conducts many training courses and seminars on aviation risk and crisis management with foreign experts and top leaders to ensure smooth and effective operations.

On June 21, 2022, Vietnam Airlines became the first and only Vietnamese airline to attain EDTO (Extended Diversion Time Operation) certification by the CAAV to operate extended range flights with eight Boeing 787s and 14 Airbus A350 aircraft with EDTO times of 207 minutes and 240 minutes respectively. This certification demands extremely stringent standards that few airlines in the world can achieve. Its criteria include flight safety, aircraft maintenance, ground operations, and staff training. The approval is even more meaningful as Vietnam Airlines is constantly striving to expand our long-haul international routes, especially the Vietnam – US routes, to reaffirm our leading position as Vietnam’s national flag carrier.
