Pioneering wings on the path to integration

Thirty years ago, as Vietnam entered a new era of reform, Vietnam Airlines was launched with an important mission: not just to transport passengers but to embody the nation’s aspirations – specifically, the desire to integrate Vietnam more deeply with the wider world.

In 1995, Vietnam Airlines operated 39 routes to 31 destinations. By 2024, the airline had expanded its network to 96 routes, connecting to 1,150 global destinations, including key economic, political, and cultural hubs around the world. This growth is not merely a statistic; it reflects the unwavering dedication of a pioneering business committed to connecting Vietnam with its global partners.

Vietnam Airlines was one of the first Vietnamese enterprises to enter the “global playground” by joining the SkyTeam airline alliance, reinforcing its identity as the National Flag Carrier on this proud journey of integration.

A bridge for trade, tourism, and culture

Each Vietnam Airlines flight is more than a means of transportation; it serves as a bridge that spreads the spirit of Vietnam – through local products, distinctive cultural traits, and warm hospitality. Over the past 30 years, the airline has served more than 350 million passengers and completed over 1.2 million round trips, achieving an average annual growth rate of 19%.

In 2024, Vietnam Airlines carried 22.75 million passengers – more than ten times the number in 1995. This growth underscores the airline’s vital role in connecting Vietnam with the world, drawing international tourists, and facilitating trade and investment. Vietnam Airlines has played a key part in positioning tourism as a major economic driver, with each flight serving as a powerful bridge between Vietnam and the global community.

A pillar of economic and social development

Vietnam Airlines serves not only as a symbol of integration but also as a vital contributor to economic and social development. Over the past 30 years, the airline has created tens of thousands of jobs, both directly and indirectly. It has generated a revenue of VND1.2 trillion, contributed more than VND65.3 trillion to the state budget, and transported 4.7 million tons of goods for commerce and consumption, both domestically and internationally.

During times of crisis – be it the tsunami in Japan, the conflict in Libya, or the COVID-19 pandemic – Vietnam Airlines has consistently risen to the occasion, flying humanitarian missions to repatriate citizens, transport medical supplies, and deliver essential goods. These efforts reflect the airline’s unwavering commitment to national responsibility, resilience, and discipline – core values that define its enduring spirit.

Three decades of pride – toward promising new horizons

Thirty years is more than just a milestone—it’s a testament to a journey shaped by trust, resilience, and aspiration. Today, Vietnam Airlines has grown beyond its role as a conventional airline to become a powerful symbol of connection, reflecting the spirit of the nation and Vietnam’s ambition to rise, thrive, and stand tall on the global stage.

Vietnam Airlines remains steadfast in its commitment to innovation – advancing its governance model, modernizing its fleet, accelerating digital transformation, and enhancing service quality. With a clear goal of becoming a five-star international airline, the journey ahead holds immense promise. As the wings that carry the spirit of Vietnam, the airline will continue to soar higher, flying proudly alongside the nation.
