It’s a common misconception that Vietnam’s white sand beaches are only found in the South and Centre. upon arriving on the Co To islands, many people are astonished by the bright blue waves gently lapping against white sand.

The Co To archipelago consists of about 50 large and small islands in Quang ninh province. Big Co To features many beautiful beaches and impressive tourist attractions. It takes about one and a half hours by boat to travel from Van Don Wharf to Co To. Upon arriving, visitors immediately feel a sense of peace due to the fresh air, great views and friendly local people.
While Co To has few modern resorts and hotels, it has wonderfully unspoilt beaches. Visitors will find clean white sand banks and lush forests full of diverse flora. The best beaches include Hong Van Beach, which lies about five km east of Co To town. This beach has calm water and is a safe place to swim. It’s also beautiful, with turquoise water, pure white sand and lots of surrounding greenery. Although Van Chay Beach is further away, lying 11 km from the district’s centre, it attracts the largest number of swimmers. This beach is embraced by a fine sandbank and the water is so clear that you can see fish swimming underfoot. Van Chay has larger waves, suitable for body surfing. This is also a great place to camp overnight and enjoy a beachside bonfire.

Apart from beautiful beaches, Co To has some interesting destinations to discover. About four km from the district’s centre, the Co To Lighthouse stands on a hill, 101 meters above sea level. After climbing 72 steps, visitors are rewarded with an incredible view of the island and surrounding sea.
The best place to watch the sunrise and sunset on Co To is Cau My, a spot on the south end of the island, about three km from the central town. Dubbed “The Place of Love”, Cau My features sedimentary rocks that have been eroded by the sea to form colourful layers. This natural site is a great place to pose for photographs.

If you’re looking for an unspoilt spot for a summer holiday, the Co To islands offer a true escape.
