Did you know that a vibrant maple forest, reminiscent of Europe, is hidden in the heart of Vietnam? From late winter to early spring, the maple forest in Huong Hoa, Quang Tri province, undergoes a stunning transformation, draping the region in breathtaking beauty.
This forest stretches along the serene Rao Quan Lake, a hydropower reservoir. The maple trees, known locally as “sau sau,” have stood here for generations. Their seasonal colors create a dazzling spectacle against the clear blue sky. First, the leaves turn brilliant yellow, before shifting to vivid orange, and finally deepening into a fiery red. On sunny days, sunlight filters through the canopy, casting shimmering beams of light that heighten the forest’s charm.
Visitors can immerse themselves in nature by taking a boat ride across the lake, weaving between the submerged maple trees. Another option is to find a quiet spot to camp, breathe in the crisp air, and enjoy the poetic beauty of the sunset.
