Recently, at the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee, Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh) and Cat Ba Archipelago (Hai Phong) were officially recognized by UNESCO as a Natural World Heritage, becoming the first inter-provincial/city World Heritage site in Vietnam.

With their beauty and many valuable features, Ha Long Bay and the Cat Ba Archipelago are considered geological museums that contain globally significant heritage. These sites reveal evidence of the Earth’s creation and transformation throughout history. In addition, this area also boasts high biodiversity and is home to seven tropical and sub-tropical marine-island ecosystems.
