Autumn is Hanoi’s most beautiful season, inviting us to slow our steps, inhale the fragrance of new green rice wafting on the breeze, and bask in the golden rays of late afternoon sun warming quiet street corners.

This year, once again, millions across the nation turn their hearts toward Hanoi – rich in proud memories and national identity – to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s independence and the 71st anniversary of the capital’s liberation. As history is recalled in the flutter of red flags with golden stars, autumn unfolds with cultural, musical, and sporting events that capture the distinctive spirit of Hanoi in the fall.

Autumn colors in every step of the parade

In early September, Hanoi’s streets blaze with red and gold national flags as crowds converge on Ba Dinh Square. The “A80 National Concert” – a grand parade and military review marking National Day –  becomes a defining moment. The sound of bugles and drums rises over the synchronized steps of marching regiments, vividly recalling the nation’s heroic chapters. After the ceremony, visitors can explore the Vietnam Military History Museum or Hoa Lo Prison, where artifacts, images, and personal stories bring the nation’s triumphs to life.

New rhythms of running strides and rowing oars

As part of the commemorations, Vietnam Airlines is creating new community sporting spaces where endurance meets national pride. At the end of September, the Vietnam Airlines Run for Love 2025 will set off along Hanoi’s tree-lined boulevards. A new 1.5 km course for children makes this year’s race a family affair, offering joyful moments to share across generations.

In October, the rhythmic dip of paddles will animate West Lake at the Vietnam Airlines Hanoi Dragon Boat–SUP Open 2025. Under clear autumn skies, colorful dragon boats and hundreds of international athletes will create a vibrant spectacle of energy and unity. More than a competition, the event is also an invitation for global friends to experience a modern Hanoi that proudly preserves its cultural essence.

Music bridging heritage and modernity

In the crisp October air, on the 10th and 11th, the Vietnam Airlines Classic – Hanoi Concert 2025 welcomes back the world-renowned London Symphony Orchestra, which has graced legendary stages for over a century.

At the helm is Sir Antonio Pappano, a maestro knighted by both the United Kingdom and Italy, celebrated for his gift of breathing life into every note. Under his baton, soaring violins, blazing brass, and resounding timpani will guide audiences through unforgettable emotional journeys.

Closing out October, 5AM Eye-Conic Hanoi will fill the thousand-year-old Thang Long Imperial Citadel with music and lights. Within the embrace of ancient stone walls, contemporary beats converse with tradition, opening a space where past and present harmonize. With a capacity of 5,000 people, the event is a dazzling festival of sound and light, leaving each guest with radiant and profound memories.
