After two days of intense competition across the rugged mountainous terrain of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Ron Ng of Singapore and Charles Murray of New Zealand have emerged as the Asia–Pacific winners of the Defender Trophy 2026. Their victory secures them a place at the Global Final, set to take place in Africa later this year, where they will represent the region on the international stage.

This year’s regional qualifiers brought together 24 competitors from seven markets across Asia–Pacific, including Hong Kong, Indonesia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Over the course of two demanding days, participants faced a series of challenges designed to test their off-road driving skills, physical endurance, strategic thinking and teamwork under pressure.
The driving stages required competitors to carefully plan routes and maneuver vehicles through narrow obstacles, steep inclines and low-visibility terrain, all within strict time limits. Additional tasks included building rope bridges, transporting heavy equipment across uneven landscapes and completing night-driving missions. Physically demanding exercises involving lifting, carrying and pulling further intensified the competition, forcing teams to maintain focus and coordination at all times.

Throughout the event, Ron Ng and Charles Murray stood out for their composure, adaptability to constantly changing terrain and well-calculated strategies. Their consistent performance across all stages allowed them to outperform a strong field of contenders and secure the top regional position. They will now advance to the Global Final, where they will join other regional champions in a large-scale adventure challenge organized in partnership with Tusk, Defender’s long-standing conservation partner.
Alongside the competition, Defender also showcased the Defender 110 Trophy Edition, a special model created to celebrate the heritage of the iconic off-road vehicle while supporting modern exploration. Finished in the distinctive Deep Sandglow yellow exterior, the vehicle pays tribute to the legacy of legendary off-road events and is equipped to handle some of the harshest terrain conditions.

The upgraded Defender line-up was also highlighted, featuring enhancements in both design and technology. Updates include a larger 13.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and advanced off-road driver assistance features, further strengthening Defender’s reputation as one of the most capable and durable four-wheel-drive vehicles available today.
The return of Defender Trophy marks a new chapter for the brand as it continues to combine adventure, modern technology and a commitment to environmental conservation. With the Global Final in Africa on the horizon, Ron Ng and Charles Murray are expected to deliver strong performances, embodying the resilience and exploratory spirit of the Asia–Pacific region on the world stage.
