A longing for the Eastern lands lingers from the start,
An urge to tightly embrace its mountains and forests

– from the poem “Nho Mien Dong” – Xuan Mien

The endearing name “mien Dong” (the Eastern region) refers to Vietnam’s Southeast, the country’s southern economic hub. Today, tourism is thriving in this area, with vibrant tour itineraries that truly offer “a journey of a day, a lifetime of joy.” This region is a cultural mosaic, comprised of ethnic groups from the southern Truong Son Range, Khmer and Cham communities, and later migrations of Kinh and Hoa people over many centuries. This cultural mix created one of Vietnam’s most captivating destinations.

The Saigon River

At the center stands Ho Chi Minh City, greeting travelers with a cosmopolitan vibe and distinctive character. Set at the meeting point of the Saigon and Dong Nai rivers, this old trading port is the perfect gateway to a river journey. Trace the area’s history upstream through Nha Be and Gia Dinh toward the Song Be and Song Vam Co rivers. You will feel the pioneers’ footsteps – those who expanded the frontier, founded villages, and defended the land. Riding the alluvial currents, the scenery shifts from glittering riverfront boulevards to vast estuaries and a world-biosphere reserve.

Legendary wartime bases and national parks create a “Green Journey” steeped in the scent of primeval forests. The region’s spiritual life is equally compelling: pagodas, shrines, and Cao Dai temples form an unbroken “Spiritual Journey” for pilgrims.

In addition, Southeastern Vietnam is known for its sun-kissed coastline and aquamarine sea. Con Dao – an emerald archipelago with a wild soul – shines brightly on the global travel map. The Eastern region also features vast rubber and coffee plantations and orchards, whose fruits have gained worldwide renown. Urban yet free-spirited, this land of “two seasons, rain or shine” offers a never-ending feast for the senses.

The “True Essence – Authentic Touch” tour itineraries introduce visitors to this region’s diverse landscapes, which draw visitors back time and again to discover new and unique experiences. This summer, let Heritage Guide lead you to the East.
