After a brief hiatus, the Vietnam Airlines Classic – Hanoi Concert 2024 is set to return, promising a top-tier musical experience for audiences in the capital. This year, the concert features the prestigious Russian National Symphony Orchestra and talented ballet dancers from the renowned Bolshoi Theatre. As an important cultural event, it aims to promote international exchange and showcase the beauty of Hanoi to both locals and tourists.

The Russian National Orchestra

First organized in 2017 with a performance by the London Symphony Orchestra, the Vietnam Airlines Classic – Hanoi Concert (VACC) quickly became a bridge connecting classical music to Vietnamese audiences. After a three-year break, VACC 2024 returns with new highlights, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in a unique and emotional artistic experience.

Promoting international exchange and showcasing the capital

VACC 2024 will include two performances on October 12–13, 2024. The first night features symphonies and a piano solo by Russian artist Eva Gevorgyan, while the second night presents ballet excerpts performed by principal dancers from the Bolshoi Theatre. Notably, the symphony segment will include a special arrangement of the Vietnamese national anthem, performed by the Russian National Symphony Orchestra under conductor César Álvarez, as a respectful tribute to the audience and Vietnam’s capital.

Musician Quoc Trung, Director of Thanh Viet Production and the program’s main producer, remarked, “This year’s program is not only rich in content but also a valuable opportunity to introduce classic musical works from famous ballets, alongside principal artists from the Bolshoi Theatre. This sets the stage for Vietnam to invite world-leading art troupes, such as dancers from the Bolshoi or the Mariinsky Theater, in the future.”

César Álvarez, the orchestra’s conductor, expressed high hopes for his visit to Vietnam. He believes that in a country full of rich cultural heritage, classical music can resonate deeply and connect with local people’s emotions and stories. “Classical music, with its universal language, can touch the hearts of the Vietnamese public through profound narratives and themes linked to their local culture,” he affirmed. “This concert invites the world to see Vietnam through a new lens—where past and present blend harmoniously, creating a common musical language that connects cultures and forges lasting memories.”

Elevating cultural exchange

Promoting international exchange and showcasing Hanoi, this cultural event is more than a way for Vietnam Airlines to communicate its brand image and express its appreciation for its customers. Inviting world-class performers to Vietnam is a way to deliver a high-class cultural product to the public. In major Asian music markets like South Korea, Japan, and China, inviting renowned symphony orchestras has become a tradition that generates sustainable revenue. Vietnam, however, still needs time to build a solid classical music market. Thus, the role of Vietnam Airlines is crucial. Organizing VACC annually not only underscores the airline’s community responsibility but also brings top-notch artistic experiences to the public. Musician Quoc Trung added, “This event holds great significance, both socially and culturally, elevating the value of art to new heights.”

Making Vietnam a destination for world music

Unlike previous years when VACC was held outdoors, this year’s concert will take place at the Ho Guom Opera House, recognized as one of the top 10 opera houses in the world by the World Travel Awards. Since its inception, the Ho Guom Opera House has sought to create a modern artistic space that harmoniously blends traditional elements with cutting-edge sound technology. Mr. Quoc Trung noted, “VACC 2024 is special because it will be performed in a leading theater that meets international standards for stage space and sound quality for orchestras like the London Symphony and the Russian National Symphony Orchestra. I hope that in the future, Vietnam will become an annual destination for leading global orchestras.”
