The collection Mother’s Embroidery conveys the artistic heritage of costume embellishment, particularly the embroidered patterns on traditional Ao Dai. Embroidery, as a refined handicraft art form, demands cultivation and preservation as a precious element of cultural tradition. Through the creativity and meticulous craftsmanship of embroidery artisans, the designer has created Ao Dai pieces that embody timeless beauty.
On the small Tam Thuong street stands Tu Thi Temple – the ancestral shrine of the embroidery craft guild, once privileged to create royal garments for the imperial court. Tu Thi Temple dates back to the Le and Nguyen Dynasties, two eras when handicrafts, textile weaving, and cotton goods production flourished in Ha Thanh (ancient Hanoi). Designer Xuan Thu has studied and distilled the quintessence of both the craft village’s heritage and her mother’s artistry, passing it on to the Gen Z daughters, thus maintaining this cultural continuity.
