The latest áo dài collection by Xuan Thu, “Vermillion,” finds inspiration in the classic Vietnamese art form of lacquer painting.
The designer adapted traditional lacquer painting colors and techniques to the fashion process. The collection’s color palette includes bright vermillion, dark brown and pale pink, while accents are gilding with silver, gold and eggshell. To make these áo dài designs genuine works of art, Xuan Thu sought out and joined craftsmen in Ha Thai Village, a famous lacquer village in Thanh Tri District, Hanoi.
In combination with sophisticated techniques of traditional craftsmanship, Xuan Thu’s advanced cutting technique highlights the essence of the Vietnamese áo dài. Soft and lustrous silk further accentuates feminine charm.
The collection was photographed at Saigon House, a unique cultural center and features Miss Vietnam 2016 Do My Linh, ambassador of Binh Duong’s second National Amateur Music Festival 2017. The presentation honors the ageless enchantment of the Áo Dài and traditional Vietnamese music.
